I am from Monterey, California where I grew up, became a painting contractor and raced motorcycles for over 20 years. I am also an alcoholic. Through the help of my sister and the Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula I found CSTL in 2006. I became a resident and lived there for about 10 months before returning home. Unfortunately, I relapsed and with the urging of my ex-wife and my family I returned to CSTL in April of 2009. I first went to their Detox, with very little hope, for 10 days and then moved back into the community. I have been sober ever since. I remembered a comment I heard at an AA meeting that went something like "if nothing changes, nothing changes". Well I knew I had to change and living at CSTL makes that transition a lot easier. I consider CSTL my 2nd family and I am proud to be a member of this community. My relationship with my daughter, Morgan, and the rest of my family in Monterey is simply wonderful. Today I reach out to the newcomer with acceptance, patience and respect. I owe my life to CSTL
